Saitama is the capital and the most populous city of Saitama Prefecture in Japan, situated in the south-east of the prefecture. Its area incorporates the former cities of Urawa, Ōmiya, Yono and Iwatsuki. It is a city designated by government ordinance. Being in the Greater Tokyo Area and lying 15 - 30 kilometres north of central Tokyo, many of its residents commute into Tokyo.

Situated within the Kantō Plain, the city is topographically comprised by lowlands and plateaus, mostly falling below 20 m above sea level, with no mountain ranges or hills within the city boundaries. The western portion of the city lies on the lowland created by the Arakawa River along with those created by small rivers.
さいたま市（さいたまし）は、埼玉県の南部東寄りに位置する市であり、同県の県庁所在地である。日本に20市ある政令指定都市のうちの1つであり、政令指定都市で唯一、内陸県に位置する。
2001年（平成13年）5月1日に、浦和市・大宮市・与野市の3市の新設合併により成立した。さらに、2005年（平成17年）4月1日には岩槻市を編入した。
2014年現在、約125万人の人口を有するさいたま市は、日本で9番目に人口が多い市となっている。

Saitama ist die jüngste Millionenstadt Japans mit über 1.25 Mio Einwohnern Sie liegt nördlich der japanischen Hauptstadt Tokio, im Süden der gleichnamigen Präfektur Saitama in der Kantō-Ebene und ist Sitz der Präfekturverwaltung.
Saitama gehört zum großen Ballungsgebiet von Tokio, es ist mit dem Shinkansen nur 15 Minuten von Tokio entfernt. Die größten Zentren des öffentlichen Lebens konzentrieren sich um die Bahnhöfe Omiya der größte Bahnhof der Präfektur), Shintoshin (mit der Saitama Super Arena) und Urawa.
